COMBAT HISTORY OF THE 36th. ARMORED INFANTRY
THIRD ARMORED SPEARHEAD” DIVISION

On This Date,A Regimental Retreat Parade Was Held In The Vicinity Of The Zellhausen Airport-Colonel Robert L.Howze Jr.TheRegimenta Commander,36th.Armd.Inf.Regt.3rd.Armd. Division,Was Invited To Put The Battle Streamers On The Regimental Colors And Decorated All The Guidons Of The Regiment With The Combat Infantry Streamer-And Gave The Following Address To The Assembled Regiment.
     In Order To Understand The Operations Of The 36th-Armored Infantry Regiment In Europe During World War 11 It Is Necessary To Know The Organization Of The Regiment Itself,And The Various Combat Units Uinder Which,And With Which,The Elements Of The Regiment Fought.
     Only Three Armored Divisions,The 1st;2nd;And 3rd;Entered, Combat Under The So Called "Heavy"Organization.This Was,Essentually Two Combat Command Headquarters,Two Armored Regiments Of Three Battalions Each,And An Armored Infantry Regiment Of Three Battalions,Three Light Armored (Self-Propelled)Field Artillery Battalions,A Reconnaissance Battalion,And An Engineer Battalion,To Name The Combat Elements Only.
     The 3rd.Armd.Div.Improvised A Third Combat Command Using The Headquarters Company Of The 36th-For Control,And Calling It Combat Command Reserve,A Name Which Was Rarely Accurate.
