SPEECH MADE AT THE PARFONDRUY CEREMONY 6-13 1998 BY MONSIEUR EMILE DALLEUR

Mr. Corbin: Just a few words in the name of the Committee for the Remembrance of the Battle of Stavelot. On the opportunity of your visit to Belgium, you have decided to present to our Village a Plaque of remembrance from the Third Armored Division Assn. Of which you are the President. We knew that Parfondruy has a lot of memories for you. First, Unhappily you were wounded not far from here by shell splinters, but also you were greatly moved by what you had seen here on December 1944. The atrocities committed by the German SS troops toward peaceful inhabitants. The small part of our population was savagely murdered. WE shall never forget that. Yet today we return a touching memory of these 54 innocent victims from the villages of Parfondruy, Ster, and Renardmont, and we have a touching memory for their families of existence. Mr. Corbin, today for your fine jester, the villages corporation and the victims families assure you that entire gratitude this remember place will be to the generations that young men and you were among them Mr.Corbin, came from distant America and fought here in our little village for our freedom. Thank you Mr. Corbin, God Bless you and God Bless the Americans.
